Description | ABC-CLIO, an award-winning educational reference publisher, is looking for an Acquisitions Editor for our ABC-CLIO and Greenwood Health & Wellness and Psychology reference products. This position can be located in either Santa Barbara, CA or Broomfield, CO office. Acquisitions Editor is responsible for acquiring and developing new reference books for the high school, public library, and undergraduate college markets in the fields of Health & Wellness, and Psychology, annually contracting 25 volumes. Successful candidate will be a creative and innovative professional in managing and advocating for well-established and successful lists, ensuring they make an ongoing and substantial contribution to the success of the reference print and online publishing programs. Acquisitions Editor follows market trends and opportunities; forges print and electronic strategies; conceives book concepts; contacts leading authors; evaluates suitability of proposals for publication; negotiates contracts; maintains good relations with current authors; ensures manuscripts are delivered on time and published according to schedule and budget; and interacts with the production and marketing departments to ensure appropriate and successful publication. Acquisitions Editor plays a key role in forging ABC-CLIO/Greenwood's identity in the marketplace. Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and project management skills are required; 2-3 years book-publishing experience is required. B.A. required, preferably in the health sciences, psychology, or related discipline; experience in health & wellness, psychology, or an advanced degree in either field is desirable.
