Description	China Institute, a New York-based innovative educational non-profit organization established to advance understanding of China in the US, seeks a dynamic and experienced Project Manager. China Institute is embarking on a new multi-year program to develop a wide range of inter-disciplinary multi-media, educational materials and programs based on the exquisitely illustrated children’s book series: We All Live in the Forbidden City. The Project Manager will research and develop a business plan for the translation, publication, and dissemination of the book series to American audiences. The Project Manager will serve as China Institute’s liaison with project partners including: publishing companies, translators, television networks, schools, and museums. Responsibilities include: • Outreach to US children’s publishing companies as prospective partners; • Evaluate the possibility of self-publishing the book series; • Identify qualified candidates to translate We All Live in the Forbidden City into English for young readers; • Determine the best method for exposing the greatest number of American children, families, and educators to the translated book series; • Develop and refine the project timeline and key phases; • Coordinate with existing programs at China Institute including education, exhibitions, and publications; • Identify adjunct staff and appropriate infrastructure needed to realize all project components (publication, education, exhibition); and • Determined overall project budget range; • Evaluate the suitability of the We All Live in the Forbidden City exhibition for an American audience; • Outreach to museums as potential hosts of a companion exhibition; • Outreach to television networks as potential broadcasters of an animated TV series based on the translated We All Live in the Forbidden City. Qualifications include: • Expertise in the American publishing industry; • Excellent writing and project management and budget skills; • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; • Strong organizational skills and ability to adhere to deadlines; • Ability to take initiative and work independently; • Ability and willingness to travel to China; • Experience, creativity, and enthusiasm to research and design a unique educational project; • Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is highly desirable; • Experience in curriculum design and/or teacher professional development is a plus.
